Fennel Seed for horses is a warming spice that helps improve the digestion of horses who suffer from problems such as a gassy gut, flatulence and general discomfort.
 
It also helps to promote a plentiful supply of milk by mares - especially in the first few days after foaling.

Fennel Seed promotes the efficient performance of the kidneys, liver, spleen and also helps to clear the lungs and encourage efficient breathing. It is also a mild diuretic.

Fennel Seeds are sometimes confused with Anise Seeds, which are very similar in taste and appearance but smaller.

The aniseed flavour of Fennel comes from Anethole - an aromatic compound that is also found in Anise Seed and Star Anise.

Fennel Seed for horses relaxes the intestines and relieves muscle cramps in the digestive tract. It reduces bloating caused by digestive disorders. Fennel Seed for horses works in a complimentary way with Anise Seed for horses in preventing griping.

Fennel, or Foeniculum vulgare to give it its botanical name, is a hardy, perennial herb, with yellow flowers and feathery leaves. What we call ‘seeds’ are in fact the dried fruits of the plant and they have been used as a herbal medicine since ancient times. The seeds are a greenish-grey colour and oval in shape.


The Fennel plant is usually considered native to the Mediterranean, but down the years it has been grown in many parts of the world, especially on dry soils near the sea and on river banks.


A warming aromatic spice, Fennel has been used as a tea to soothe the digestive system and help relieve cold symptoms for centuries. Fennel Seeds can also stimulate the metabolism so that more calories are burned through more efficient functioning of the digestive system.


Many cultures in the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East use Fennel Seed in their cookery.



To improve the quality and quantity of a mare's milk, a mix of boiled barley and Fennel Seed can be fed during the last month of pregnancy.
