Omegas -3, -6 and -9 are known as the Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs). Your horse cannot naturally produce these Omega Oils. In terms of importance, it follows the numbers - Omega-3 fatty acid is the most important Omega followed by Omega-6 fatty acid and then Omega 9 fatty acid. The two most important essential fatty acids are Omega-3 and Omega-6. Each of these Omega fatty acids aids your horse in a particular way.

Omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory and help reduce pain, swelling, promotes general well-being and is associated with glossy coats.

Omega-6 fatty acids are pro-inflammatory and helps to maintain your horse's immune system.

Imbalance of Omega-3 fatty acids and Omega-6 fatty acids or inadequate amounts of Omega 3 can affect your horse's temperament.

As you can see from the graph below, Flax Oil has by far the largest proportion of Omega 3 and the best ratio of Omega-3  fatty acids to Omega-6 fatty acids.
