Did You Know?

Fenugreek Seed for horses provides a rich source of essential oils, protein, vitamins and minerals, including iron, in a form that is easy to absorb.

Fenugreek is a valuable digestive tonic which can increase appetite, improve digestion and stimulate the movement of digested sugars for meals through the intestines and into the body tissues. This makes Fenugreek for horses a useful supplement that can help with weight gain and general well-being. It can encourage fussy eaters and be a useful tonic following illness.

Fenugreek is a natural expectorant that loosens mucus and excess phlegm and relieves congestion. It also reduces inflammation and fights infection and soothes inflamed intestines. It can reduce complications caused by gastric ulcers.

The high mucopolysaccharide content of Fenugreek Seed regulates bowel movements. It bulks out the gut contents, which slows down the movement of food through the gut. This allows more time for the water to be reabsorbed into the large intestine which helps to reduce watery faeces. The bulking action also helps to reduce constipation. The mucopolysaccharides also soothe any disturbance in the digestive system and absorb toxins from the bowel to maintain healthy levels of good colonic bacteria.

Many owners say Fenugreek for horses has also been found to be useful in cases of allergies, bruises, anaemia and lung problems.

Fenugreek is well-known for boosting milk production in lactating mares, but it is not recommended for pregnant mares because it stimulates the uterus.

Fenugreek Seed for horses can also control and regulate blood sugar levels. Fenugreek contains an amino acid which stimulates insulin secretion and lowers blood glucose and allows the sugars to be absorbed more efficiently into body tissues. This action also helps with weight gain.

Among the minerals Fenugreek Seed contains is selenium - an anti-radiant which helps the body use oxygen efficiently. Fenugreek also contains silicon, sodium and thiamine.

Fenugreek is one of the oldest of all cultivated herbs. It has been used for thousands of years as a medicine and in cooking. Charred Fenugreek Seeds have been found in Iraq which tests have identified as dating from 4,000 B.C.

Fenugreek was used by the ancient Egyptians to fight fever, and was also grown in ancient times as a cattle food - this probably explains why its name is derived from the Latin phrase meaning ‘Greek hay’.

Fenugreek is an aromatic Mediterranean plant that produces long pods containing oblong, brownish seeds. Both the seeds and the leaves in their natural form have a strong aroma.

The chemical structure of Fenugreek is very similar to that of Cod Liver Oil.
