Pegasus Health®
Garlic has a range of natural health-promoting properties due to its powerful actions, and Garlic Solution is an easy way of feeding your horse all the benefits of this powerful plant. Garlic is believed to contain more than twenty-five substances that kill germs and give strong support to the immune system - including selenium, sulphur and vitamin C. Garlic was traditionally used for respiratory support, and more recently for cardiovascular support, and for its antioxidant and microbe-fighting properties.
Pegasus Garlic Solution contains garlic oil, which is the active component of the garlic bulb. The oil contains the sulphur compounds that give garlic its therapeutic properties, including alliin, disulfides and trisulfides. Pegasus Garlic Solution contains a higher concentration of oil than is found either in the fresh bulb or the dried chopped bulb (garlic granules).

Pegasus Health Garlic Solution is safe to feed with modern medication/synthetic drugs prescribed for equine respiratory illnesses and infections. Pegasus Health Garlic Solution is a superior form of garlic, which being in solution means it is absorbed into the horse's bloodstream and transported around the body much faster when compared to garlic granules or a powdered form of garlic. In simple terms, liquid garlic is much more efficient which means that your horse will get the maximum benefits in a shorter period of time.

Garlic has been popular for centuries as both a food and a medicine and it is known as one of the most effective natural healing substances in the world. However, more recently the benefits of feeding garlic to horses have been fully recognised and it is now one of the most commonly fed supplements. The benefits as a health supplement are extremely far reaching. Whilst many supplements are designed to aid one specific area, garlic is probably the most natural all round supplement that you can give to your horse.
In the times of the ancient Greeks, garlic was regularly used to tackle parasites, respiratory problems, poor digestion, and low energy. It is claimed that it was fed to the Egyptian workers building the pyramids to increase their stamina and ward off infections.
Despite the fact that over a thousand publications in the last decade confirm the usefulness of garlic, the active components are not fully understood and its likely that several different bioavailable substances are involved in its health-promoting properties.
Not all garlic preparations can be assumed to be equally active, and there could be circumstances where one type is preferred over another. For example, raw garlic can be irritating to the digestive tract and in some cultures, extracts of garlic are made with alcohol, wine, milk or vinegar. Garlic oil for horses is a carefully processed extract containing the active components of garlic.
Garlic contains sulphur, which has blood cleansing properties. Regular consumption of garlic has been shown in animal studies to help the cardiovascular system, through cleansing the blood and improving circulation. Garlic is believed to support healthy blood pressure. Garlic is also rich in selenium and other microminerals. Research has shown that supplementation with garlic can reduce the accumulation of cholesterol on the vascular walls of animals. It also helps increase the appetite of a horse that is not feeding well.
For a healthy respiratory system, particularly in stabled and competition horses, garlic will help support lung function and sooth horses' airways. Its chemical compounds help the body deal with challenges to the immune system and it contains a substance that helps move mucus, cleansing the respiratory tract. Garlic is a powerful immune supporting herb that is ideal for horses who are under the weather or exposed to high levels of stress e.g. at top competitive level or during long distance transport.
Garlic is a well-known supplement for horses for deterring flies and other annoying insects. The odour released by the skin of horses that have eaten garlic is what repels midges, gnats, flies and mosquitoes. As the weather improves and temperature rises, flies and mosquitoes become a nuisance to horses. Garlic produces a pungent odour on your horses skin and in your horses sweat, which is offensive to insects and therefore effective in keeping flies away.
Garlic is also effective against intestinal parasites. Horse owners say that feeding garlic is good for deterring tapeworms, pinworms and roundworms - but it is not advised to rely solely on garlic and exclude the use of regular wormers.
Garlic supplements can be used all year round to strengthen and support your horse's health. Aside from the above benefits, garlic for horses also aids good digestion by reducing harmful pathogens in your horse's system while allowing friendly gut flora to be retained; it protects the liver and has the ability to stimulate the lymphatic system.
