Linseed meal for horses is an alternative way of feeding your horse all the goodness of linseed oil which improves your horse’s coat and condition and helps maintain good general health and supple joints. In addition to the oil, it also supplies high levels of essential amino acids and lignan, a health promoting substance.

The advantage of linseed meal is that it’s ready to add straight away to your horse’s daily feed - no need to boil and prepare the seeds yourself. It also has a long shelf life making it a real value-for-money purchase.

Marriage's Specialist Foods operates a mill in Lincolnshire that micronises linseed - a process which destroys 'anti-nutritive factors' which are present in raw linseed. It is from a guaranteed non-genetically-modified source - to give you quality and peace of mind.

Marriage's Micronised Linseed Meal is:

  • UFAS
  • Non-GM
  • Grown and processed in the UK
Marriage's linseed meal for horses contains:
  • 18.2% omega-3 (including alpha-linolenic acid)
  • 5.3% omega-6
  • 7.7% omega-9
  • Calcium
  • Copper
  • Magnesium
  • Phosphorus
  • Selenium
Feed to:
  • Any horse for general health benefits
  • Older and arthritic horses - who will find it particularly suitable
  • Horses who need a coat or condition boost
  • Excitable and nervous horses - who may benefit from omega-3 fatty acids
  • Horses recovering from injury
  • Horses who need to gain weight

How much micronised linseed to feed a horse?
1 g of linseed meal per 1 kg body weight per day.

Micronised linseed horse feed is a safe health and conditioning feed, which can be fed straight, or included in most feed regimes.

Linseeds, also known as flaxseeds, come from the flax plant which is native to the region between the eastern Mediterranean and India. These days flax plants are cultivated across the world.

Linseeds come in two varieties, brown and golden (sometimes called yellow) which both have similar nutritional virtues.

Linseeds are the richest plant-based source of the omega-3 fatty acids, and is also rich in omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids - and the balance of these fatty acids that linseeds contain is unique among all equine feed ingredients. Horses can’t make these ‘good’ fats in their bodies so they have to come from their diet, or supplements like linseed meal for horses and linseed oil.

Essential fatty acids (EFA), as omega-3 and omega-6 are called, are vital to good health. They nourish the coat, bones and hooves of horses of all ages and they are also needed for healthy cell development - contributing to maintaining a healthy heart.

Lack of omega-3 can lead to excitability and nervousness in horses. Omega-3 is also needed to support the body's healing processes after an injury - which in itself can deplete the body’s reserves of this EFA.

Cereal-based diets tend to be high in omega-6 but low in omega-3. Linseeds contain more omega-3 than omega-6 which enables it to balance the fats in your horse’s diet meaning other nutrients and supplements can be metabolised effectively. This makes linseed meal for horses a really useful nutritional supplement.

Linseed meal is particularly suitable for older or hard-working horses due to its supportive effects on joint flexibility and mobility.

Micronised full-fat linseed meal also contains useful minerals and trace elements such as calcium, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, selenium and is a good source of slowly-released energy.

Marriage's Micronised Linseed Meal has a high oil and low starch content which makes it a high-performing conditioning feed.

Following the process of micronising the resulting linseed meal is a unique combination of palatable, digestible protein combined with the most intense vegetarian source of omega-3 essential fatty acids available in the natural world.

Love this product, both my horses are on it and they both have very glossy coats and look brilliant. Both are also keeping condition much better. Would recommend and it is good value.
